HTTP
Proxy Settings For Internet Explorer
Proxy
Server addresses and ports used for our HTTP proxy, can be found on our
Proxy
Server List. The
port to use for each server will be listed on the same line as the server name.
If your are having problems with your ISP being able to look up the server name,
you can use the IP address in place of the server name. If you still experience
problems, check your configuration and be sure that you are using the correct
user name and password. If you have checked everything, try a different proxy
server on one of our other networks just in case we are having problems. If after
trying both networks and you are still having problems, contact our technical
support department. During normal business hours you can telephone support 603-740-5666

Setting Up
Internet Explorer For The Proxy
You
will need an account with The Proxy Connection before using our proxy servers.

Step
#1 Select Which Proxy You
Would Like To Use
Before we get started you will
need to select which proxy server from our list that you would like to use. All
that you will need to start is an IP address and the HTTP port for that IP. As
shown below each proxy server has an HTTP port and IP address listed for each.

For
this lesson we have chosen DSL-NET.ORG as our proxy server.
Step
#2 Configure Internet Explorer
To Use The Proxy Server
Start
configuring Internet
Explorer by
opening your browser. Click on Tools and select "Internet Options as shown
below.

Click on
the "Connections" tab as shown below.
These instructions are for those that are using
telephone modems or Virtual Private Networks. If
you are using cable or have a permanent LAN connection to the Internet
click HERE.
Proxy settings for DIAL-UP connections.
1. Click on the ISP connection
name in the the
"Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings" window and then click
on the Settings button.
2. Put a check
in the box Automatically detect settings.
3. Put a check in the box Use a
proxy server...
Now
enter in the proxy server and port that you would like to use from The Proxy Connection
into the Proxy server Address area. For
this lesson we have chosen DSL-NET.ORG as our proxy server and have entered it,
as shown in the capture above. Note:
Where it asks for the Address, you can either enter the proxy server name or the
IP address of the proxy server. The port for DSL-NET.ORG is the standard HTTP
port 8080.
If your ISP requires that you make a direct connection to their web page
from THEIR network, you can place a check in the box to Bypass proxy server for
local addresses.
Next, click on the Advanced button.

Put a check in the "Use the same proxy server for all protocols" check
box.
This option will use the proxy server for HTTP (normal web pages), FTP
(downloading files), Secure (Secure forms and encrypted servers) and Gopher (search
servers).
If you do not wish to use the proxy server for all of the protocols
above, simply uncheck the box and blank out the lines that you do not want using
the proxy. If
the line is blank it will use the protocol using the direct connection from your
Internet service provider.
You
are now finished - Click
OK on all of the boxes and refresh the page or restart Internet Explorer. You
will now get a user name and password prompt as shown below.
Enter
the user name and password that we sent to you in email when you signed up for
our service.
Note:
If you have an old LDproxy account you can use any of the services
or proxy virtuals listed for Machine #3, #4 and #5. If you would like to upgrade
to a Proxy Connection account and access all of the servers listed you can do
so HERE
(be sure to add your old proxy user name in the notes section with the word upgrade)
Changing
The Server
Changing the server is easy, simply repeat step 3 #1 using a new proxy server
and then restart Internet
Explorer.
NOTE:
These
settings will only work with the dial-up connection that you have configured.
If you have more than one dial-up connection, you will need to configure each
connection separately.
Testing
The Connection
To test the connection you can visit our web page http://theproxyconnection.com/
.
If you go to the bottom of the page center; You will see the Visitor Information
section as shown below:

5 And Sockscap Support
If you have problems that you can not over come
use sockscap. Sockscap is a freeware program put out by NEC. Many people like
using sockscap when they have many different Internet programs because once sockscap
is configured for the proxy server, you do not need to configure any of your Internet
programs. Simply click and drag your Internet programs into the sockscap program
control window, start the program, and you are running on the proxy! It is this
