There are no problems when you are using your browser to connect to free web based email programs. As long as you are using the proxy server the email header will not show your real IP address. If you are using Outlook Express or another email program to collect your mail, you will want to send yourself emails and check your email headers before trusting that your IP does not show up in outgoing email.

Proxy Mail Settings For Outlook Express / Netscape Messenger
In our tests, neither Outlook Express or Netscape messenger work with the proxy setup configured in the browser. Even though Outlook Express claims that it will use the browser "Connections" settings in the email configuration area, this does not seem to include the proxy setup for closed proxy systems.

However, you can force Outlook Express and Netscape Messenger to use the proxy by using a freeware program put out by NEC called sockscap. More information about sockscap, setup instructions and download link can be found on our web page at http://theproxyconnection.com/socks.html

Simply click and drag the Netscape Messenger or Outlook Express shortcut icon
into the sockscap control window. When you start the mail program from the sockscap window, it will be using the proxy automatically.

When you start Outlook or Netscape Messenger from the control window above, the programs will be forced to use the proxy server that you have sockscap configured to use. You can also click and drag the icons inside the control window back to your desktop or shortcut folder for ease of launching as shown below.

Now you will be able to click on one icon to start the email program with the proxy and another icon to start it without the proxy.

Things To Consider Stealthing Email
Each time you send an email, your IP address is included in the sent mail header. Even if you hide the IP address, the email address may still give away your location. For example, if the email address that was given by my Internet provider was myname@harbortelco.com, anyone could look up 'harbortelco.com' to see where the provider was located. Once they know this, they can start looking in the general area for other information that would direct them closer. It is far better to use a free email service located far away from your real location and then simply stealth the sending IP address by using the proxy. If the IP address is the only concern, then use your ISP email through the proxy to hide your real IP address.

Using The Proxy Connection SMTP Mail Relay
In order to hide the sending IP address you will need to use our SMTP server to send the mail. To be able to relay mail through our SMTP server, you will need to be coming from one of our proxy IP addresses. This is why you will need to use the sockscap program shown above. If you setup your email program to use our SMTP, and you are not using one of our proxy server addresses, you will get a RELAY DENY error.

When you use sockscap with your email program, it will be forced to use the proxy to make the connection to our server. Our SMTP will then see the proxy IP and allow the mail to be sent.

Setting Up Email Programs For The Proxy
